Reach Out

I remember when Bush was re-elected how completely miserable I was on that first morning. The sense of uncertainty and fear for the nation's future. I suspect a lot of people feel that way this morning. I am going to try something different today. I pledge myself to reach out to some of those people, listen to their concerns and hope to make them understand that we are all in this together After all it's my nation, it's their nation and it's our nation. Can we work together to find common purpose? Yes We Can....

A great day to you all...

I'm still not convinced that things will magically get better just because there's a blue man in the White House.

Nor am I - but at the very least we have a man in there who consistently has been able to build coalitions of people to address common problems. It would be nice if promise instead of fear guided us for a while. It's at least worth a try isn't it?

In any case, the choice has been made. I, for one, would not have opposed our duly elected President just because he was the wrong color(blue, not red). I joke around a lot, but I still believe in defending the constitution, and did so in uniform for almost 10 years. I was looking this morning on the old NewsBloggers on aol thing, and Mo Rocca has a doozie going right now. The rabid xians are out in force, along with the rednecks, neo-nazis, and other assorted assholes who think Obama was a bad choice (despite Mo's take on the matter). There's a lot of hate out there.

Yes there is. I was in the Navy in the late '70's (don't hold it against me...) and I served to a large extent because of a feeling to serve this country like my family before me did. Someone from my family has fought for America since 1862. I still try to serve it in other ways now. Yes there is hate out there but that isn't surprising - what is surprising is that the hate did not carry the day. And it's up to us to see that it stays that way.

I got no problem with the Navy; my older brother did 20 and retired. I wanted to stay in the Army until retirement, but a series of back problems from being Airborne forced me to accept a medical discharge. You wouldn't know I'm a disabled vet from looking at me, but the difficulties I face are insignificant compard to some of the guys (and girls) coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan. I've met a few, and I'm humbled by their sacrifices.

I hear ya there. In my current work capacity I encounter them fairly often. Horrible stuff. My brother still some a fair amount of work with Walter Reed - It tears him up to see those kids.

All the hate out there, reminds me of the Apollo 8 mission where the astronauts remarked on how small the earth looked when rising against their view of the moon. Such a tiny, insignificant planet in the void, but it's all we've got and we all have to keep on living here.
When are we gonna get back to the science, man?
