Gotta Hand it to Sara...

Just when you think that reality can't become any more absurd and surreal...

Sara Palin has become the smarmy voice for ignorance and catch phrases absent any meaningful ideology. Her smugness matched with her ignorance is not a particularly appealing package when looking for a national leader. I'd like to think that true conservatives can find someone better to articulate their vision and lead.

Being plain spoken may just mean you have nothing substantive to say.

True conservatism is an important point of view in our national debate and direction. Personally, I’m a social liberal, fiscal conservative who believes in a strong national defense and a cautious foreign policy. The conservative mistrust of government and the liberal mistrust of the people can provide the delicate balance needed to navigate the treacherous waters of democracy. But it only works with enlightened leaders. Leaders who try to get us to be the best versions of ourselves not the worst. That is why I like Obama. Not because he has all the answers but because he is trying to get us to act like a nation instead of a couple of idiotic factions. It’s not working because the conservative cause has been hijacked by intellectual lightweights and gutless windbags. The Republican strategy of dropping to the ground like a toddler and becoming a burdensome sack of potatoes to the political process may succeed in winning the next election. It won’t help provide leadership and direction for our nation’s future.

Conservatives - don’t wave the flag or spout about family values. Ditch the smarmy catch phrases. Call out your windbags. Explain to the rest of us what you bring to the table and how you’ll address the collective problems we face. Do that and some of us might vote for you.

On a positive note, although you will lose data with this method if you get the device wet, you can still use it again in the future...

But security can be a problem if someone gets a hand on it.

Hey, I write notes on my hand if I don't have paper and need to remember something later.

Granted, I wouldn't go on TV that way. I mean, how difficult is it to remember a few dozen things you want to talk about when they throw soft questions at you like that?

Maybe she just had a note to herself that read,

"Don't go out there and act like a developementally disadvantaged democrat"

Because it seems, she has no problems with the word retard, but to say someone is fucking retarded realy stings her heart???

no, it said:
Energy
budget* cuts
Tax
Lift American Spirits

*budget, on her hand, is struck out; I can't do this in a comment on blogger, I don't think. I assume she wanted it to read:
Energy
Tax cuts
Lift American Spirits

I guess with all that money she saves on using a teleprompter, or buying books, magazines, newspapers, or any other educational material, she could get some index cards to read from.

The fact that she lined out budget on her hand was the highlight - she couldn't just spit in her hand and get rid of it?

Well, she was intent on not appearing to be one of the educated elite - I have to say that worked...

She has also accomplished a near impossible feat - making W look like a Rhodes scholar.

Pliny, I think you fail to grasp the deeper point here: there will be a new line of Palm OS devises dubbed "the Palm Palin" marketed to those incapable of using smartphones. It will feature Palm OS 1/0 and will look remarkably like a Pilot Gel pen.
It also features handwriting recognition!

I think I'm quite within my rights to say "I fucking hate the current batch of Republicans"--Republicans seem to have become hijacked by the Christian conservative "rehl amr'ca" which is about restricting people's rights, lowering educational levels and standards, and trying to bring about "nuke-ya-lar" war.

Jared - I share your pain! I agree but continue to hope that a real conservative will find their voice and raise the level of debate to a useful level.

I also think the rules regulating 501(c)3 organizations should be more strictly enforced...

Man Pliny, you just nailed my m.o., besides having the same ability to articulate myself as an eighth grader.

But I couldn't agree with you more, and frankly as a conservative I'm scared.

You write about the blowhards and the toddlers who're hijacking the party, but I'm worried about the conservative intellectuals as well.

I've heard wonderful analysis from someone like Newt Gingrich, and then a switch is flipped and he becomes a reactionary Reaganite who wants to take us into every war possible, and "invest" in countries who don't need us there.

Can I get a WTF?

I know Bill Kristol isn't planning on running for office, but I sat aghast watching some show where he defended Palin! Ack! I think he even said he was a, "fan" of Palin.

Fan? You're kidding, right Bill?

It makes me want to throw away my vote.

I guess it's possible. Right now I'm a Republican agnostic.

Wow! With that system you could write dirty words on it and use it for self-actualization!

Hmmm. Palin. Self-actualization. I just painted a picture in my head and I can't get it out!

Oh! Sorry!

Mike

oneblood, you may yet see the light of registering "Independent" as I have.

On a lighter note, I hear Republicans are all about self-actualization without a hand from anyone else...

Hey Pliny, do you know that the old Dinesh blog finally died? Stop by my place if you ever get the chance. More conversation than before.

Sarah Palin. What a piece of work. Love the palm messages, too funny. She rants about Obama and his teleprompter as if she didn't use one with all her big speeches, and then writes crib notes on her hand for a softball interview, and the crib notes were general principles that she talks about all the time, so the very idea that she even needed to write them down, all four words or so, is hysterical. It's a third-grader thing, not something that a serious adult candidate for anything would do.

And Micheal Lockridge, I think I've been kinda an asshole to you recently. Sorry. I actually do value your input, regardless of whether it riles me or not.
